What did the creation and launching of the Hubble space telescope help science? What is its historical significance…?
ground based telescopes such as the one Edwin Hubble, the astronomer used in the 1920s to make great discoveries are very good but have certain limitations. the air distorts the path of flight and makes the images “fuzzy”
the big space telescope named after him is above the air .It is not as big as ground ‘scopes but can stay almost perfectly still for hours and days, ant there is no air to disturb the image
when it was first put in space it was discovered it was manufactured wit a mistake and was “nearsighted”. spacemen had to go up and put a new “eyeglass” to correct the error. really interesting history. Hubble is one of many powerful telescopes that each see the universe in a “color” of light we cannot see
we are only beginning to understand the universe
